Did you see the festivities?

Sunday 1 December 2019 in Celebrations

A festival of colour and creativity made Party Day one of the most exciting days of the year on Friday as departments came alive in a variety of children’s themes. Toy Story, Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Aladdin, Santa’s Workshop, the Wild Wild West, ‘Thoracic’ Park, Dr Seuss, Superheroes, Trolls and Under the Sea were some of the themes on display.

The highly professional appearance of the hospital was the result of staff and volunteers letting their imaginations run wild and displaying talents not typically seen in the medical environment.

There is not normally an excuse to bring a paintbrush and glue gun to work but the results of weeks of dedicated preparation, and plenty of extra time spent at work after hours, ensured a spectacle that will become a treasured part of many children’s memories.

Party Day creates a wonderland in which to celebrate Christmas for children at the hospital although more than one staff member was heard to exclaim, "We love Party Day!" before adding they are already planning for next year.

Adding to the fun were the costumes that staff, patients and families dressed up in on the day, but a picture tells a thousand words and there are many photos included in the accompanying gallery.

The Hospital’s Facebook page captures the excitement of Party Day and includes visiting characters and inspiring people.
