Depending on its size and location, a tumour can be removed via surgery. Sometimes, this is the first stage of treatment.

In some instances, surgery may be dangerous or cause too much damage because of the size and position of the tumour. So instead, chemotherapy or radiotherapy may be given before operating to shrink the tumour and make surgery easier.
