A day in the Oncology Treatment Clinic

Tuesday 1 October 2019 in News from the Cancer Centre

A lot has changed since the Oncology Treatment Centre first opened its doors in 1976, with the most significant being more children who are diagnosed with cancer today will be cured and become long term survivors. Advances in research, clinical care and treatment have transformed the kind of care cancer patients receive and the Treatment Centre is where much of the action happens.

From 8 o'clock in the morning, when the first patients walk through the door, until 6 o'clock at night, the centre is a hub of quiet action where toys and distractions help children get through their often arduous treatment.

This morning, some patients became stars giving the camera winning smiles as they went about their routines, sharing what happens as it is a big part of their lives, and their families, while they are being treated.

A new page on the website, 'In the Oncology Treatment Centre', provides more insight into what children experience in the centre.
