Scoring Fundraising Goals

Tuesday 1 October 2019 in Supporter thanks

Booting a ball into the back of a net during the Kicking Goals for Sick Kids marathon futsul event means much more than the usual team celebration. It helped raise over $130,000 for the Oncology, Heart and Neurology departments of the Children's Hospital at Westmead giving it much needed funds to help it provide the best treatment possible to seriously ill children.

The annual event, in its eighth year, took place on the 6th and 7th of September and has the unusual distinction of sending all proceeds raised to the hospital. No expenses are incurred as everything is donated including the Dural sports facility where the games are played, food, t-shirts, and marketing.

This year it attracted over 500 players of all ages and abilities with 5-year-olds displaying their talents alongside 55-year-olds, playing in various timeslots for 24 hours. Face painting, raffles, silent auctions and super heros added to the festive nature of the event which was a tremendous success.

Famous faces were seen mingling with families and players including Mile Sterjovski, Brett Emerton, Nicky Carle and Shane Smeltz who took to the floor in friendly rivalry with Greg Giovenali and his futsal stars.

Funds raised will help the Cancer Centre for Children continue to improve outcomes for children with cancer. Thank you to all involved in this important event which makes such a big difference to the lives of sick kids and their families.
