Opera House shines gold for kids with cancer

Special lighting to make the famous sails on the Sydney Opera House bright gold will signal the arrival of September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in Australia. Each September, cancer organisations around the world highlight the need to improve diagnosis, treatment and outcomes for children with cancer and encourage donations and fundraising which are a vital part of achieving these aims.

The candlelight gathering taking place at the Opera House on the eve of this special month, Saturday 31 August 2019, honours all children and families affected by the disease. The community will join together, with the golden sails and candlelight symbolising solidarity and unity, as they hold a vigil for all children who have been diagnosed with cancer, and those currently going through treatment, as well as the many who have sadly passed away.

Throughout September people will be encouraged to become involved and 'go gold and give' with funds raised contributing towards finding a cure for childhood cancer.
