To care for the health and welfare of Oncology families at the Cancer Centre we have made some changes which affect patients in Variety Ward. To help families with the current changes, that help to protect patients from coronavirus, the following letter has been published.
To our Oncology Families,
As part of our strategy to minimise the risks to our patients, we will be moving Oncology patients currently in Variety Ward to the Exley Ward today. We expect to complete this move with minimal disruption to you and your child.
Exley is on Level 2, of The Children’s’ Hospital at Westmead, located in the same corridor as the Oncology Clinic (Oncology Treatment Centre) triage entrance. The Exley Ward was previously called Turner Ward.
As part of the important general strategy, only one parent/carer can accompany/stay with your child.
Please also help us by informing visitors and relatives to NOT visit. Encourage them to communicate by phone or smart phone video apps.
It is important to also avoid visits by siblings (brothers/sisters).
Please report any new respiratory symptoms that you or your child develops to your medical or nursing team.
The ward staff from Variety ward will also move into Exley. Although some routines will have to change, we will keep these to a minimum. If you have concerns please let your nurse, medical team or Variety Nurse Unit Manager know so we can address these concerns promptly.
The Cancer Centre for Children website http://cancercentreforchildren.org.au/ will be updated daily as information comes to hand. Please make this a regular web site for you to visit for these updates.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this unusual and rapidly changing situation.
