Kay’s creative birthday surprise for Angelica

Wednesday 21 October 2020 in News from the Cancer Centre

A big surprise was waiting for Angelica at work on Wednesday. She was amazed to discover an enormous birthday cake, creatively decorated with bright pink flamingos and lush green foliage, to help celebrate her special day.

Kay Billet, a Hospital volunteer for almost 30 years, made the festive cake for the popular play therapy assistant because she feels the staff are like family.

“They’re special people, and Angelica is absolutely amazing. I just wanted to spoil her!”

Kay noticed staff often get too busy to eat, and has been bringing in morning tea some days, as well as helping to prepare craft activities.

“It makes me feel like I’m doing something, almost like I’m there. Because I can’t go in anymore with COVID-19 as I’m aged over 70. It’s hard being here, and knowing they’re there, but at least I can feed them!
