Jacqui Cross commends nurses on Twitter

Thursday 6 February 2020 in News from the Cancer Centre

World Cancer Day poses the question ‘Who are you and what will you do?’ to point out how individuals can make a difference which made it an opportune time for Jacqui Cross, NSW Health Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, to recognise the contribution of nurses. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has also declared 2020 the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, to recognise their vital contributions in caring for patients. Both occasions help shine a light on how important nurses are.

“Your care and expertise makes a real difference to people,” Jacqui Cross said on Twitter to share her appreciation of the integral role nurses play in the lives of cancer patients and their families.

Justine Battersby is pictured in the tweet in Oncology’s Camperdown Ward, at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, as she, and all NSW Health nurses in oncology, are commended for their care and expertise while nurses with cancer receive special mention.

The timely tweet, and WHO recognition, is a shout out to nurses that they are appreciated and valued and, on World Cancer Day and every other day, they make an immense difference.
