Gold breakfast a delicious success

Wednesday 2 October 2019 in Celebrations

Breakfast is often touted as the most important meal of the day, but the Oncology Parents Advisory Council (OPAC) took this to a new level on Sunday and celebrated Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by organising a delicious Gold Breakfast for children and their families.

The aroma of freshly baked croissants lingered in the air as they tucked into golden cupcakes, colourful fruit salad, mini quiches, an assortment of drinks for the kids and tea and coffee for mums and dads. Special breakfast boxes were made for the families in Variety Club Ward to enjoy so they could join in the celebration too. Parents cooked and donated most of the food and Jude, Maria and Deb were on hand from OPAC to make sure everyone started their day with a satisfying meal.

The Gold Breakfast is one of OPAC's many initiatives, aimed at putting smiles on the faces of children and their families in oncology, and marks the end of the official September celebrations that play an important role in raising community awareness and donations to support research and improved treatments.

For OPAC though, the other eleven months are just as important for supporting families with cancer in their lives as they instigate innovative ideas and activities.
