Exley Oncology Ward is on the move!

Thursday 25 February 2021 in News from the Cancer Centre

Exley Oncology Ward will be moving back to its original location soon and Cindy Johansen, Nurse Unit Manager, is spreading the word:

On Tuesday 9 March the current temporary COVID-19 ward on Variety, along with the Emergency Department, will be moving to the newly built Central Acute Services Building (CASB).

The current Exley Oncology Ward will be on the move back to Variety Ward on Thursday 11 March.

Some of you may know where we were previously located prior to COVID-19. For those families who did not know us prior to COVID-19, we will be located on Level 3 next to Commercial Travellers Ward.

After the move, Variety Ward will be one of two dedicated Oncology Wards at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. It will cater for 12 children, in single rooms, and admit the following patients:

  • Oncology and BMT patients – primarily those that need isolation rooms, however you may still be admitted to us even when you don’t require a single room.
  • Children who are immunosuppressed of other specialities including haematology, liver and renal.

You will see the same friendly faces currently looking after you - just in a different location!
