Monday 5 October 2020 in News from the Cancer Centre

The Australian Government’s new Children’s Cancer website was officially launched last week with Dr Luciano Dalla-Pozza and Dr Jessica Ryan, from the Cancer Centre for Children, as its co-chairs.

The website is a hub of expertise providing the latest evidence-based information, statistics, resources and links for children, families and health professionals.

“Paediatric cancer experts, and families affected by childhood cancer, were consulted to create a high-quality website that supports children and parents dealing with this challenging diagnosis,” said Dr Dalla-Pozza, Director Cancer Centre for Children.

Cancer Australia has provided resources directly aimed at children, on the new website, to help them cope with their diagnosis, including an animated video.

“In 2020, it is estimated that 870 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in children in Australia,” said Professor Dorothy Keefe, CEO Cancer Australia, who noted that a cancer diagnosis can leave families with many questions and concerns that the website can assist with.

Dr Dalla-Pozza and Dr Ryan’s leading roles in developing the Children’s Cancer website for Cancer Australia is another instance of the expertise at the Cancer Centre for Children providing insight for government initiatives.
