Congratulations Josh

Tuesday 5 November 2019 in Patient stories

Josh was diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma when he was four years old, and fourteen years later his mother wants to share his experience with families of children diagnosed with cancer because it’s a story of hope.

After Josh’s family were told the devastating news that he had cancer, treatment began with Prof Kellie and his team. His mother, Helena Phillips, remembers how hard this period was and the “struggle of having a child with cancer.”

In contrast to that difficult time are the milestones Josh is achieving now he is well again. Recently he was awarded Dux for 2019 from St John Paul 2 Catholic College (Terra Sancta) which is a source of pride to all who know him and a reward for his hard work.

He has also just turned 18 and in October sat the exams for his Higher School Certificate. Josh is now a young man, living life on his own terms and, thinking of families that may be in the same position she was all those years ago, Helena says,

“There is a light at the end of the tunnel even though at the time it seems so far away.”
